What to Do After You Get Engaged

So you’re engaged. Congratulations! The most magical time of your life is about to start. The proposal, the special time as an engaged couple, the wedding planning process… as amazing as it is, it can also be quite stressful. So, what are the very next steps that should be taken after you get engaged to get the wedding planning ball rolling? We’re here to help guid you through the process! Try not to stress, and remember to enjoy this time together.

‣ The first thing we recommend for all clients is to decide how big you want your wedding to be. Do you want to have a large wedding with 200+ guests? A small and intimate wedding with family? Do you want to elope? Do you want to elope but then celebrate with your closest family and friends afterward? Figuring this aspect out will help guide you with every other decision that follows.

‣ Next, it’s time to pick your wedding party! This is the fun part. After you’ve figured out the size of all your guest list, it is time for you and your partner to pick your bridesmaids, maid of honor, groomsmen, and best man.

‣ Once you have taken care of bridal party you should figure out your budget for wedding. Your budget may change depending on the other choices you make (about the venue, vendors, attire, etc.) but it’s smart to start off with a base number or even a range that you will try to stay within. It’s also a good idea to contact all your vendors get prices and rank vendors in order of which you are willing to spend more of your budget on vs. less.

‣ Next, you should decide on a date, and look for a venue that is available on that date. We recommend to clients to figure out which season you want to get married in. Will your venue be outdoor or indoor? Do you want to marry in your hometown, or will this be a destination wedding you’re planning? Many venues get booked out ahead of time, so it’s best to start looking for one as soon as possible so that you can book your dream venue!

‣ The next step is very important in the wedding planning process is to book your vendors! Vendors, like venues, get booked out pretty far ahead, so it’s best to book your priority vendors well in advance. From your wedding photographer to your florist to your DJ, you want to take these decisions very seriously, as your vendors can make or break your wedding day. Especially your wedding photographer, I might add!! ;)

Of course, there are so many more moving parts and decisions to be made when planning a wedding, but taking care of these five steps will simplify and ease the process just a bit. Always remember the most important thing: relax and enjoy this time as an engaged couple!
